Deputy-involved shooting under investigation in Spring Valley

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 34-year-old man is dead after a deputy-involved shooting in Spring Valley.
Law enforcement was initially called for reports of a man trespassing at a home on Leland Street near Jamacha Boulevard.
According to authorities, a woman reported her boyfriend had shown up at the home, was acting erratically, and had a gun inside the house with her four children present.
When deputies arrived, the man was in the backyard, still armed. According to SDPD, the deputies safely removed the children from the home.
While they were trying to make contact, police say, he started firing his gun from the backyard.
The man then went back into the home, firing from inside the house out the front door, coming to the door multiple times, then going back inside the home.
At one point, police say the man raised his gun towards the deputies and was shot by multiple responding deputies.
The 34-year-old died at the scene. Police say he has been identified, but his name has not been released to the public.
It is believed that seven deputies fired their weapons, according to authorities.
Law enforcement plans to keep the area closed off for hours. The San Diego Police Department is investigating the shooting in accordance with the Countywide Memorandum of Agreement.

A large law enforcement presence was active on Leland Street in Spring Valley as the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a deputy-involved shooting in the area Friday evening.
According to City News Service, Law Enforcement gunfire was reported around 3:15 p.m.
At least one deputy was involved and it happened on the 900 block of Leland St., north of Jamacha Blvd. and east of State Route 125.

about the incident at 5:25 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15. Deputies emphasized that there was no active danger to the community; however, they warned the public to avoid the 900 block of Leland St. and to find detours as law enforcement processed the scene.
“We appreciate your cooperation during this incident,” the sheriff’s office wrote on X.
Per the agency’s policy on deputy-involved shootings, the San Diego Police Department is taking the lead on this investigation.
